The Parish Council are consulted on all local planning, and we are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have on planning applications.

Representatives from the District and County Council sometimes attend Parish Council meetings.

Currently our CDC Representative is Andrew McHugh and our County Council Representative is Arash Fatemian.

The Parish Council is run in an open and transparent manner and is keen to promote good communication.  All are welcome and encouraged to come to one of the regular Parish Council meetings which are held in public, usually on the last Wednesday of alternate months (Jan March, May, July, Sept, Nov) from 7:30- approx. 9:30 pm in the Village Hall.

Dates for Parish Council meetings 2024

Generally the last Wednesday of alternative months in Village Hall unless otherwise stated

Wednesday 27th March

Wednesday 29th May

Wednesday 31th July

Wednesday 25th September

Annual Parish meeting and Annual meeting of the Parish Council tbc

Any changes to these dates will be notified on the website, through our Email list and village Notice boards.

All villagers are very welcome to attend. The agenda is posted on the website and village notice boards at least three days before the meeting and will confirm the date of the next meeting.  If you have any business you wish to be discussed at a PC meeting, you will need to inform the Clerk for it to be added to the Agenda.

At the start of our meetings there is a public participation slot where matters can be raised by members of the public. It maybe something that can be answered immediately but if it is of a significant nature it may need to be considered in greater detail and therefore added to the items for the next meeting. This is so as to ensure that the matter is publicised in advance and all interested parties know that it is a subject that has been raised. For those who cannot attend meetings then please feel free to contact us in writing via the Parish Clerk: parishclerk.somerton@gmail.com

Please bear in mind that we are a small council with limited powers and very limited resources. The Clerk is the only paid employee and the formal point of contact. All five elected councillors are volunteers who give up their time freely on behalf of the community and are happy to be approached with any issues. They will do their best to help, but no formal decisions can be made outside the regularly convened meetings.

Mid-Cherwell Neighbourhood plan  approved by referendum in 2019 and is currently under review
